Jailhouse Lover

I have a question about my boyfriend who is in jail and although I’ve seen your archives, I can’t exactly find one to fit this question particularly. My boyfriend and I didn’t actually start talking until he had been in jail for a while, but we have been friends for years.

He had always tried to get with me while we were friends, but i was always too preoccupied with others. Now, we have been together for almost a year and I am deeply in love with him! He tells me he loves me all the time and when I get to see him, even if it is in between glass, I feel that I can see the love in his eyes.

But there are other times that I feel like he may just be using me for my money and companionship, etc, while he is in jail. I don’t feel like that because he does anything to make me feel that way. I am just worried because I have seen it that way before.

Do you think I should worry about this? Or should I believe him when he says that he really loves me? I honestly feel as if I want to spend my whole life with this man, but before I do, I’d like to know if my worries are normal or if it’s more than likely that he’s just using me. — Becca
…………………………………….

Becca, when a guy’s in jail he doesn’t have too much to occupy his time. He’s going to try to hold on to anything and anyone who will help him pass the time, whether or not he’d do the same if he were out of jail.

He really doesn’t have anything to lose and he has a lot to gain by having a jailhouse romance with you. But, would he continue to feel the same way if he wasn’t locked up? Hard question to answer but if you’re having doubts there must be a reason. Stick with your intuition. — Queenie
