Frank, Covenant Marriage is an attempt to make marriages last longer and divorce more difficult. In the states in which Covenant Marriage is available, a couple seeking a Covenant Marriage is required to get marriage education or counseling before their marriage (or prior to the conversion of their marriage to a covenant marriage), and also before divorcing. The grounds for divorce are much more limited.
The whole idea is to make couples aware of the importance of the vows they will be making to each other BEFORE they get married which may help to avoid bad marriages from taking place. Once married, it is much more difficult to get a divorce which means that couples will have to work harder to solve their problems.
